The 2nd round of the Welsh Mountain Bike Series was held on the 3rd March at Coed Y Brenin. BNECC youth members Nicole Clarke, Rob & Craig Rogers all competed and again acheived some great results. Nicole was 2nd under 12 girl and 6th overall in the under 12s category. Craig was 3rd in the Juvenille male race and his brother Rob also 3rd in the Junior mens race.

“We are proposing to hold our annual Youth Section fund raiser shortly, a Hot Pot Supper and Race Night to which adults and youngsters are invited. It will be held on Friday 19th April at the Wirral Rugby Club near Thornton Hough at 7pm. Last year we raised over a thousand pounds which was spent on funding events, sponsorship for riders, insurance, and maintenance for the stock of bikes we hold.
We have tickets available at a price of £6.50 for adults and £4.50 for under 16s, including the hot pot supper. Please invite family and friends, we can cater for about 100 so please let Geoff know asap how many you would like.
As well as tickets we sell the 8 races at £25 each so you can name the race eg “The Clan Contracting Handicap”, plus horses at £5 each, there are 8 per race, so you get to name the horse and take home a bottle of wine if it wins its race. Please let Geoff know if you can sell your boss/ publican/ butcher a race, and your work mates a horse each. All in a good cause.
At the moment we anticipate that tickets will initially be held by Gary Bateman, Annie Smith, John Simpson and Geoff Brandtf. If you can sell a horse or two please let Geoff know.
We will be holding an organising meeting on Monday evening (4th March) at the 7 Stars in Thornton Hough at 7pm to chat about it all. The venue, the FunRace Co and the food are all booked, we just need to put bums on seats, so if you feel you could sell tickets, horses or races please come along on Monday.

The first of the MTB XC Go Race North Wales events was held at Coed Y Brenin on Sunday February 24th. North End members Nicole Clarke and Craig Rogers competed at the event which included a race and a skills test. Both Nicole and Craig gained impressive results. Nicole won the under 12 girls event (4th overall for the under 12 girls & boys) and Craig was 2nd in the Juvenile boys event.

2013 club subscriptions are now due. They must be paid by the 13th March 2013. “I am pleased to report that the Knowsley Track League will commence running a track league at the new track facilities at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park which is located in Longview Drive , Huyton, Merseyside , L36 6EG on Friday evening of the 12th April, 2013. The Track League will run for twenty consecutive Friday nights. The racing will start at 7:00 pm each evening

The National Cyclo-Cross Championships were held in Peel Park, Bradford over the weekend of the 12th and 13th of January. Jess Wilkinson and Craig Rogers both competed on the first day. Jess was 5th in the under 16 girls category and Craig 16th in the under 14 youth category. Full results can be found here.
Jess has kindly provided a report for her competition:
“We got to Bradford bright and early so I could check out the course and was surprised to see it wasn’t as muddy or as technical as usual! There was the usual long and steep run ups where you could hardly get your feet to stay on the ground, slippy corners and a few fast descents and grassy straights. On the first lap I was a bit off the pace but after settling down the long straights and run ups played to my advantage and I dropped a few riders and caught a few more. On the second to last lap I was in fifth place and kept there comfortably till the end.”
The January order is now placed with Giordana.
The next clothing order will be sent mid February. Viewing and trying of the samples will take place at a suitable venue prior to the February order being placed.
Members who have already placed an order in December and January and not yet paid their 50% deposit, please let Brad or myself have payment.

A number of BNECC members took part in the Macclefield Wheelers supacross event held on Sunday 30th December. Jess Wilkinson and Craig Rogers won their events (under 16 girls and under 14 boys respectively). A number of senior members rode the event including Rob Rogers who was 39th and Martin Rogers 54th.
