CLUB RUN WITH A TWIST

Last Sunday a large group rode to Chirk whereupon most carried on back home (led by Jeff Vernon who apparently wound things up) whilst 7 went to the cafe. One lad was from the Ellesmere Port club and amazed the rest by ordering 2 large sausages and beans...we then decided to come back via the Horseshoe!

Led by Dave Russell we went along the A5 when I realised we could cut across the aqueduct where I used to walk as a kid when visiting my auntie who lived in Trevor. Thinking that young Steve Large might like it I suggested the detour to Dave and off we went. We rode alongside the canal then over the aqueduct, which runs several hundred feet above      the river Dee. When Dave and I got to the other side we were surprised to find ourselves alone.........maybe young Steve didn’t like heights? The minutes passed until the posse appeared with a rather white looking Phil Gregory who suddenly confessed to being scared of water (that will explain the odours)

Away we went and up to the shoe whereupon the sausage eater flew past on the big ring!........ bigger hitter or what. The advance party of BNECC namely Phil Gregory, Steve Large and myself did not panic but gamely followed pulling him back inch by inch. Soon the sausages were taking effect and we passed him and put him out the back whereupon he kept slightly ahead of the BNECC rear consignment of Dave, Mel Vasey and Eddie Cleverly.

Up at the Ponderosa meanwhile Phil and I spotted a very attractive shop assistant who kept looking out of the gift shop window.... her black bra clearly visible underneath her blouse (Easy tiger! - Ed.) led us to debate at length the odds of matching briefs. Eventually Phil could restrain himself no more and vanished into the shop. Steve Large and I were left looking at each other in bewilderment until minutes later Phil emerged boasting of having got a kiss!

When the rear consignment arrived with the Ellesmere Porter they confirmed that she was indeed a very attractive girl. Phil once again sprung into action and went into the shop and emerged with her name and phone number!...will he phone??? The ride over the Deglas was "brisk" with speeds of 40mph being reached but we were disappointed at being unable to trigger the speed camera.

M.L.C.A. 10 22nd SEPTEMBER 2001

The Massey family produced two very good rides in the Merseyside ladies 10. Susan Massey was 4th in the ladies event also 1st juvenile and 1st on handicap with a PB of 26.47.

Andrew Massey also recorded a PB with 22.59, 6th overall and first junior.

WEST CHESHIRE T.T.C.A.25

On an extremely hard day John Moore was 2nd with 58.14. Pete Davies 10th with 1 hour.54.

Andrew Christie 1 hour 1 min.36 and first junior.

But the ride of the day was by Keith Boardman.

While everyone was at least 3 to 4 minutes outside their regular times, Keith recorded a season best 59.40. Needless to say he was first vet on standard.

TV STAR

As we all know Doug Phillips has appeared regularly in the local newspapers and on Radio Merseyside covering his fund raising for prostrate cancer research and participation in the Worlds Masters Championships.

Well now Doug has topped all that with his appearance on BBC North West Tonight riding his bike (in his club colours of course) and extolling the virtues of staying active throughout life. What next - Hollywood??
