The best showing by North Enders was John Moore who was 5th in 1.35.35.Also an excellent performance by Mike Jones with 1.36.57.He is a former winner of the Britannia and getting back to his old form.

The club also took all the team prizes on offer:
Senior with John Moore, Mike Jones and Jeff Vernon.
Junior: Chris Byrne, Andrew Massey and Andrew Christie.
Veterans: Mike Jones, Peter Byrne and David Parry.

Well done to all our riders on a very tough course. The event was organised by Clive Walmsley, who did an excellent job. It was very well marshalled and thank to all who helped on the day. Our club president Andy Kelly Presented the prizes. Gordon Thompson made a speech in which he reminded us all that this event used to be run over 48 miles and even 62miles (a man's event I think he called it!!!!!!!!)

It was a great event, pity it was only for this year………..

NORTH END AND FRIENDS- MAJORCA 2000

You have seen the T shirts and you have seen the suntans. Seven hundred miles in two weeks, in the sunshine while it froze and snowed in England made for a smug group of 59(21 north End and partners and 38 friends). You didn’t know we had so many friends did you!

This seems to be a matter of some envy for the wobbliest of the wobbly wheelers! It did pour down 1 day when cars passing the hotel had bow waves over their roofs. We had 4 or 5 groups every day, club run, tourist, social, laughing group and a Z section.

They all explored the lanes, the villages, and the Alpine type climbs, which are the wonderfully accessible attraction of Majorca, with the advantage of guidance from our resident friends Alan, Sue and Sammy.

Not to omit the pleasure of sitting in the square of Petra in the sunshine eating free oranges and drinking coffee surrounded by nubile young German girls, in minimal Lycra!!!!!

Another guest at the hotel accosted one of our groups,’ there a bit noisy your lot aren’t they’. "Well er,yes a bit , you know what its like when you get 60 cyclists together’ ‘ by gum, I wish I was with you'.

We ended with the famous and now traditional ‘Champagne and crisp’s’ leaving do.. 30 bottles of ‘champagne’ and about two tons of crisp’s gone in twenty minutes !!!!!!!

At the time of writing we have about 40 booked for March 2001, but we do have 3 spaces left preferably for North end members.

Peter Hudson (sounds great Peter: Z section???)

If you haven’t visited our web site yet, you really must do so. Ruaraidh Gillies has done a fabulous job by creating and always updating the information on the site (he had his second place in the handicap on the web page before I had put my bike away in the garage!!!!)

Chris Byrne

(Hmm, seems a bit silly putting this up on the web, but I'm never averse to public acclaim...! Ruaraidh)
