CLUB AGM 2001
The club annual general meeting took place on Thursday 13th December 2001. Over 40 members attended the meeting, and when called upon to volunteer to fill the vacant posts we actually had members coming forward. This being in sharp contrast to previous years AGM when we have struggled to find new officials. Lets hope this is a continuing trend for future years!
Our new officials are:
CLUB CHAIRMAN : Geoff Brandt replacing John Burgess who
has completed his three-year term.
CLUB SECRETARY : Chris Quinn who has replaced Les Kennedy
who stood in for a year at short notice.
TIME TRIAL SECRETARY : Peter Byrne replacing John Burgess.
ROAD CAPTAIN : Bob Macdonald replacing Peter Kay.
PRESS SECRETARY : Pete Davies filling a vacant post
Our thanks go to all retiring officials and welcome to our new
ones.
(Note that Chris Quinn's email address has changed - now
shown on Email page - Ruaraidh)
There were also changes to various other positions such as the sponsorship committee, timekeepers, handicappers and delegates, and again all filled without too much difficulty.
As reported in previous circulars the meeting needed to address the important issue of rising costs of third party insurance. The need for insurance and level of cover was debated, and it was decided it represented good value for money and is essential to all our members. Therefore a motion was accepted to raise the subscriptions in line with the rise in insurance costs.
This represents an increase in subs of just seven pounds per member per year!
Subscriptions due for 2002
| Senior | £24 |
| Junior | £15 |
| Juvenile | £12 |
| Over 65 | £13 |
| Associate | £6 |
| 2nd Claim | £12 |
There is no increase in the initial subscription of £5.
The above subscriptions are now due. Prompt payment would be appreciated to Ruaraidh at the clubroom on Thursday evenings. Also the marshalling rota will be opening next Thursday so chose your duties now (2 per member) before they choose you !!!!!!!!!
LIVERPOOL 10
At the Track last night it was mentioned that we could do with another social occasion (without bikes as these tend to get in the way).
To this end, I propose to hold a Liverpool '10' on Saturday 23rd Feb. Course still to be arranged but main aim is to visit 10 fine hostelries that the City has to offer us. As we are all athletes (!) - please note that alcohol does not have to be taken in all 10, but competitors are unlikely to find PSP or Hi-5 available in most of the bars. I'll draw up a start sheet nearer the time when I have an idea of the field, but hope to get clearance for a mass start, rather than the usual 1-minute intervals. Sorry - no medals on offer for this event.
Cheers!

COACHING COURSE
The British Cycling Coaching Dept is hoping to promote a Level 1 Coaches course in Autumn 2002, aimed at active club members interested in helping juveniles in particular, or parents of young cyclists, or teachers involved in school sports. The BC "Start" program has now begun, 3 of our juveniles are already involved and I suspect that coaching support for the successful youngsters needs to grow as the scheme grows. It may be that if we can get a few more qualified coaches we can help in all this. It may mean more youngsters joining and dedicated club runs to cater for them, hence requiring more help for Peter Byrne who already puts time into this aspect with our present youngsters.
A charge of £130 has been suggested, however, assistance with this has been forthcoming from the R.T.T.C in the past and other sources of funding are available e.g. Awards for All, a govt scheme to help community sports clubs. If anyone is interested please let me know so that I can contact the BC Coaching Dept."

CLUB FREEWHEEL
Congratulations to Mel Vasey on winning the clubs freewheel competition, but what happened to Steve Light??
I know he has been training hard for this event and had his best wheels on !!
YOUNG HOPE
Well done to juvenile riders Susan Massey and Danny Baird after qualifying for level 2 supports from B.C.F.
They were accepted after passing a number of tests on the track, and Kingcycle testing at the Manchester Velodrome.
