February 2003

Merseyside VTTA Dinner

The North End was well represented at the recent 2002 Presentation for the Merseyside district of the Veterans’ Time Trials Association. Doreen Mahar was there in her capacity as president of the national association, and Bill Hanson organised the prize presentation.

Pete Davies was among the prize recipients for his results during the year, Bill Davidson was awarded the Cook Trophy, to mark his return to racing following his serious operation, and Bill Hanson was awarded the Butler Cup for his services to the association (how difficult is it to organise a presentation?!!). Finally, Gordon Thompson was made a life member of the VTTA. Unfortunately for Gordon, this came shortly after he’d paid his subs for the 2003 season! He’s not holding his breath for a refund…

Thanks to our reporter in the field, Gordon Thompson.

Track Night

The second track night of the winter took place last month. Clive took charge of the evening with his customary panache, and gave us a good early season workout.

The next (and final) session of the winter is on Thursday 13th February. Bikes can be hired from the velodrome in advance on 0161 223 2244.

Reminders

A reminder from last month: subscriptions are due for renewal for all members (except those who joined since October ’02), and should be sent as soon as possible to the treasurer Peter Hudson. Send your cheques (payable to BNECC) to Peter at 22 Rectory Lane, Llanferres, Flintshire, CH7 5SR.

Another reminder concerns the Marshalling Rota. All members should expect to marshal two events during the year, and you have until the 28th of February to choose your events. After that, I will be completing the rota. It will be published in full in the March newsletter, with regular reminders thereafter. You can see the up-to-date rota on the events page.

Members should remember that it is their responsibility to arrange an alternative marshal if they cannot fulfil their duty, whether they selected the race or it chose them! This is not as difficult as it sounds: there’s usually someone willing to help out - just ask at the clubroom or on a run.

Liverpool ‘10’

As mentioned in January, the Second Annual Birkenhead North End Liverpool ‘10’ is taking place this month. It’s a whistle-stop tour of 10 of the city’s drinking establishments in one evening, the idea being to consume at least one drink in each one, and it doesn’t even have to be an alcoholic one (insert your own Mike Garner joke here!). Entries to Les Kennedy (so we know to expect you!) on 343 1880. Race headquarters is Yates’ Wine Lodge in Queen’s Square, with the flag dropping at 7:30 pm.

STOP PRESS: You may have realised that this article fails to give the date for the Liverpool '10' to take place! This was pointed out to me when I handed out the paper copies of the newsletter at the February meeting! So, if you see anyone who's complaining that they don't know what the date of it is, you can tell them that it'll be Saturday 22nd February. Sorry!

And Finally…

Hmm, this month’s newsletter is a little empty, isn’t it? Why don’t you send me something for future editions, and we can run to page 2?
